What Is Left Chest Digitizing?
Left chest digitizing converts your logo into a stitch file for the upper-left chest of shirts, jackets, hoodies and workwear. It is the most commonly embroidered garment position in corporate, uniform and promotional apparel. The left chest is also where puckering, registration errors and density problems are most visible to your clients. Every file we produce is built to run clean on the first pass.

Left Chest Placement Sizing Guide
The standard left chest logo size is 3.5 to 4 inches wide. This fits correctly on most adult polo shirts and dress shirts without overlapping the button placket. For smaller items like youth shirts, drop to 2.5 to 3 inches. For heavyweight jackets, you can extend to 4.5 inches.
💡 Corporate clients often want logos matched to exact brand standards. If your client has a brand guide, tell us the required width and we'll digitize to that exact dimension.
✓ Do this:
- 3.5–4 inches wide is the standard adult left chest
- 2.5–3 inches for youth garments or fitted performance shirts
- Position 7–9 inches from the left shoulder seam horizontally
- Position 3–4 inches down from the shoulder seam vertically
- Confirm garment brand, chest sizes vary between manufacturers
✗ Avoid this:
- Don't exceed 4.5 inches, it extends past the natural chest pocket zone
- Don't use the same size on adult and youth garments: resize for each
- Don't centre based on the full shirt width. Left chest is offset left.
Fabric Makes a Bigger Difference Than Most Shops Realise
A file that runs perfectly on a structured woven polo will pucker on a lightweight performance knit. The fabric stretches differently, needle penetration differs, and thread tension behaves differently. A good digitizer adjusts density, underlay, and pull compensation per fabric, not just per design.
💡 When you order, always tell us the fabric type. Pique knit, interlock knit, woven twill, and performance stretch all need different settings.

Free unlimited revisions are included on every order. Your first left chest file is free up to 5,000 stitches for new customers.
What size should a left chest embroidery logo be?
A standard left chest logo is between 3.5 and 4 inches wide. We recommend 3.5 inches for polo shirts and lightweight knit garments, and 4 inches for jackets, hoodies, and heavier woven workwear. If you are unsure, 3.75 inches is a safe industry-standard size that works well across most garments and fits the typical left-chest placement zone.
Does the flat rate cover all garment types?
Yes. The flat $15 left chest digitizing rate covers polo shirts, woven button-up shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, fleece, jackets, and most workwear. We adjust stitch density and underlay settings manually based on your specific fabric type so the file runs cleanly without puckering. Specify the garment fabric on your order so we configure the file correctly the first time.
Can I use the same file for both left chest and cap embroidery?
No. Cap embroidery requires curved-surface compensation, shorter stitch lengths, and different underlay settings that are not appropriate for flat garment embroidery. Using a left chest file on a cap will cause registration shift and distortion. For best results, we create separate, optimised files for caps and flat garments. Order both at the flat $15 rate each.
What happens if my logo puckers on a thin fabric?
Puckering is usually caused by incorrect stitch density or insufficient underlay for the fabric type. A properly digitized file is configured with the correct density, underlay, and pull compensation for your specific garment. If puckering occurs after sew-out, contact us with the fabric details; free revisions are included and we will adjust the file at no charge.
